NOSFERATU - A Symphony of Horror!

XIE (pronounced “shay”) is an experimental music making group at the University of Manitoba. For our first performance this year we are performing a live, improvised soundtrack for the 1922 silent film, Nosferatu!

Poster designed by me :)

I haven’t really tried playing piano since I had quit piano lessons at age 6 or 7… But I learned how to play this song within a couple of days! It’s never too late, you can always try again :)

The End

Made with stop motion & mixed media (mostly oil pastel)
Audio made in GarageBand

Photo from my performance:)

I sang at a coffee house fundraiser! I feel as though it was not my best performance, but I had fun and the audience seemed to enjoy it!

My grandma took this photo 👍

Made using original photos + Photoshop

This represents the vulnerability that comes along with having your public image shared online. Some things are better left private, especially in our digital age where privacy is undervalued.

All Nighter

this is one of my many art projects that was made from start to finish in 1 night. I often tend to procrastinate to the point where I have no other option than to pull an all-nighter to complete it… although this is bad for your health (physically and mentally), I find the challenge to be a thrill and I love channeling my entire self into the artwork. It’s also easier for me to focus in the late hours of the night/early mornings when everything is quiet.

Today

 Outdoor free time
Charcoal pencil

one day

one day
this will all be a memory
no one left to remember
and thoughts and memories
sink into the curtains
fade away into dust and sand
dry, brittle bones and cracking skulls
home to solitary spiders
webs of thoughts and strings of time
all just a whisper of existence
there are dead flowers on the kitchen table
gaps in the hardwood floor
all that’s left is gone and all I am is nothing
life was mine to hold
but only for a minute
passing through
and the
world
still turns.

Recollection

This was my first ever released song!!
I made it in GarageBand and it was definitely a learning process, but I just love the ambient soundscapes they have on there. It was so relaxing to create something like this.

3 Self Portraits

16x20 graphite on Bristol

I made these for my figure studies class. I spent a lot of time thinking about how much importance society holds on a person’s appearance, and how drastically it can change the way people perceive and interact with you. I experienced this myself as I experimented with different hairstyles throughout the years and found that people will always hold their own opinions, so why should we take it so seriously?
